Update following Government plans to remove ‘Plan B’ restrictions

Students are being updated via the Student News (sent on Monday 24 January) about the implications of the Government’s plans to remove ‘Plan B’ COVID-19 restrictions by Thursday 27 January.

In line with Government guidance, students have been advised that face coverings are now no longer mandated during University teaching and assessments; but that teaching staff have been given authority to require them to be worn in individual education settings (unless students are exempt). Face coverings remain mandatory in libraries, and are encouraged when moving around University buildings. All other University health advice remains in place until further notice.

The University remains at Business Continuity Planning (BCP) Stage 2, but is expected to move to BCP Stage 1 next Thursday, 27 January. In anticipation of that move, staff who are currently working remotely are now being encouraged to return to working on-site (as they were in Michaelmas term before Plan B restrictions were introduced).

The University and colleges are urgently reviewing other aspects of the Government guidance, and a more detailed update is expected at the end of the second week of Hilary term.
